No bass fix, too much risky

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

As we announce in the previous posts, on Monday and Tuesday we tried to accomplish the bass fix procedure. Unluckly the fix failed.

The bass fix is not an official Openmoko procedure even if it has been written by an Openmoko employee. In order to assure to its customers a good quality procedure Eshopen tried to proceed with the bass fix. it has been helped by a smd components production and assemblage firm (RDS in Milan, which is our partner). The bass fix was, at the end, very risky. The capacitors which should be changed are very small and the risk to damage near components is too high. For these reasons, and not to damage customer’s FreeRunner, it has been established to do not proceed with the bass fix.

Customers who sent their Freerunners for the bass fix should receive a mail shortly with the refund methods. If you didn’t receive, contact Nadia.

Buzz fix completed, no bass fix support from Openmoko

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

We can now announce that all the Buzz fixes have been completed to all the Freerunners of both customers and stock. From now on Eshopen.com will sell only A6+ and A7 versions (A6 + Buzz fix = A6+ = A7) of the Freerunner. All the Freerunners of customers which want a buzz fix only have been shipped. You will receive items in few days.

We will do another bass fix test on Monday on a Freerunner using the Andy specs again and we will let you informed if we will perform the fixes or not. In the meantime we asked to Openmoko specs about the bass fix and they replied:

Hi Nadia,

I have no idea what BASS fix procedure??

As for the GPS antennas, no, we don’t have any spare quantity left. We
actually don’t have GPS module or antennas as an item to order or to
give to.  Sorry.

It means that Openmoko does not recognize any bass problem.

We do not encurage any bass fixes anymore to our customers which are waiting to sent us their freerunner but we will try to fix the ones our customers already sent.

I’ll keep you updated.

First buzz fixes shipped!

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

We are ready to announce that on saturday 20th of June we were able to fix 11 Freerunners. We are proceding today fixing all the queue we have. The process of fixing is the loop below:

  1. Take the i-th Freerunner
  2. Check that it’s working
  3. Open and apply the Buzz Fix
  4. Close
  5. Insert a sim and test with a phone call using the existing software, if mic does not work go to step 3
  6. Package the i-th freerunner for shipping.

We tried to apply a bass fix on a test Freerunner too, but for now there have been no improvements. We are investingating on this fix and exploring solutions based on the Andy bass fix paper. We will let you informed about this fix from this website.

In the meantime we swithched back to the old zen cart ecommerce solution due to lack of some tools in wp-ecommerce wordpress plugin. We are also investingating in other platforms (expecially django based solutions) to create a fully integrated portal with eshop, forum, news blog and wiki.
